Description
Standards for playground safety reduce the risk for accidents. How should the requirement for a safe playground be balanced with desires to stimulate children's play and development? Some studies show that when playgrounds are made too safe, the development of risk awareness is hampered, which may lead to increased risk for more serious accidents later in life.
David Eager works on standards for playground safety. In his presentation he will discuss the work to balance safety and challenges, to make playgrounds a safe as necessary - not as safe as possible.
