== News

There is xrootd 5.1 now in EPEL, should not break ARC (TM).
Update on the GDPR fix and trouble with HTCondor pilot factory: it is a pity that WLCG discontinued the integration testbed.
The rest of the meeting is taken by the discussion of the news that Globus discontinues GridFTP everywhere, and Globus Connect Server (GCS) v5 comes with an incompatible protocol that is not made public so far. Given that GCS is used by the major HPC facilities in the USA, this may have a significant impact in terms of opportunistic HPC resource usage by the WLCG, see more details in slides by Oliver Keeble at https://indico.cern.ch/event/1009737/contributions/4237200/subcontributions/329679/attachments/2196179/3713246/Globus_intro.pdf .  ARC's implementation of gridftp currently depends on Globus Toolkit, so eventually lack of gsiftp support will disable gridftp in ARC as well, unless we reimplement it, like dCache did. The obvious thing is that there is no comparable solution in Europe. ARC could be a basis for an analogous solution (and there was even a project proposed some time ago), but a lot of work would be needed, as ARC components were not designed for high data throughput. Communication stack would need to be re-written specifically for this purpose, as the current one is optimised for flexibility and access control, and not for throughput. There's no TCP tuning, data congestion prevention etc.. dCache has a better starting point to evolve into a similar solution.
