Technical Coordination Weekly
Zoom
ARC technical coordination group members and invited persons
Present: Mattias, Lars, Balazs, Aleksandr, Ievgen, Florido, Mattias, Anders, Oxana
i) news: EU Federation
Florido reports some dark matter DIAM project
ii) main topic: repository relocation
https://source.coderefinery.org/nordugrid/arc/-/work_items/190
Mattias: no strong preference to any options. Could contribute to migration.
Ievgen: gitlab because of minimal migration needs. public gitlab (.com)
Anders: try to host it ourself (but then we will not have all users)
Florido: gitlab issues may be less powerfull than bugzilla. shouldn't be hosted in US, should be backup on a weekly basis.
Oxana: tried/used all available tracking systems. not religious, agrees with European or Nordic hosting
Lars: easy feedback channel, US is not a critical issue either US or Eu hosting OK, gitlab requires less migration over github. -> gitlab.com
Andrii: gitlab.com strong preference
Aleksandr: But I really do not bother what to use. It is not such a big collaboration it needs sophisticated tooling. It should have a way to automate builds+tests. That would be enough from my point of view.
Consensus:
1) We prefer to go to EU hosting and avoid US hosted service (would exclude gitlab.com, github)
2) we prefer "open system" with minimal contribution barrier
3) backup IS a hard requirement
4) Florido raises legal/admin concerns "who opens" the project account?
5) github is excluded because of extra code migration
6) coderefinary is problematic a) performace (could be fixed) b) user limitation
7) gitlab.com ??? maybe our best option so far ???
8) some mirroring solution, mixture of github.com (as an issue tracking) and "fixed" coderefinary could work. Florido is interested to look after this.
